Gomez and Grande’s connection was first established in 2020 when the singer was spotted sharing a kiss with an unidentified man in Los Angeles, who was later confirmed to be the luxury real estate agent.

A source informed PEOPLE that Grande and Gomez had been privately dating for approximately two months. Another insider mentioned that the two were isolating together at the singer’s Los Angeles residence during the pandemic.

On May 8, 2020, Grande and Justin Bieber released their collaborative song “Stuck With U” and an accompanying music video, filmed on an iPhone, featuring clips from fans and fellow celebrities as they practised social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic. Just two months after their romance became public, Gomez made a surprise appearance in the video, where he was seen hugging and dancing with Grande.

Bieber and Grande pledged that the proceeds from the single would support grants and scholarships for the children of first responders on the front lines of the pandemic through the First Responders Children’s Foundation.

On December 20, 2020, after nearly a year of dating, Grande announced her engagement to Gomez on Instagram. The post included photos of the couple, along with images of her engagement ring which had an oval-shaped diamond and a pearl. Grande captioned the series of images with “Forever n then some”.

At that time, a source told PEOPLE: “They couldn’t be happier, they’re just so excited. This is a happy time for them, both sets of parents are thrilled.”

Since their relationship began while they were in isolation during the pandemic, Grande and Gomez were able to maintain a private relationship, a commitment they continued to uphold during their marriage.

“Dalton is an excellent individual. He maintains a strong work focus and prefers a low-key approach,” an insider revealed following the couple’s engagement in December 2020. “He enjoys keeping his relationship with Ariana discreet, allowing them to acquaint themselves with each other in a peaceful manner.”

Two days after their wedding ceremony, it was revealed that Grande and Gomez, aged 27 and 25 at the time, respectively, had tied the knot.

“They tied the knot,” Grande’s spokesperson exclusively informed journalists on May 17, 2021. “It was a small and intimate ceremony with fewer than 20 guests. The room was brimming with joy and affection. The couple and parents couldn’t be more delighted.”

The wedding occurred at the couple’s residence in Montecito, California. On May 26, 2021, Grande shared photographs of their wedding day on Instagram. Their home was adorned with candles and white flowers, with Gomez in a Tom Ford suit and Grande in a custom Vera Wang gown. Grande’s Instagram caption confirmed that the official wedding date was May 15, 2021.

Gomez and Grande celebrated their second wedding anniversary in May 2023. “2. (3.5 together!!!) I love him so,” the pop star wrote on her Instagram Story alongside a throwback photo from the couple’s nuptials.

However, the duo completed their divorce in October 2023. Grande agreed to pay Gomez a lump sum of $1,250,000 and split the proceeds from the sale of their former Los Angeles home. A source confirmed in July 2023 that the pair had separated earlier in the year. In September 2023, Grande officially filed for divorce.

On August 25, 2023, Gomez made his first public appearance following the announcement of his breakup with Grande. Photographs captured him appearing sombre and, notably, he was no longer wearing his wedding ring. An insider spoke to Us Weekly on August 28, confirming that Gomez was still struggling with the aftermath of the split.

“It’s been a little while since Ariana and Dalton split, but he’s been adjusting to his new normal and learning to accept it for what it is,” the source disclosed. “It’s certainly not how he expected things to play out because he assumed they would be together forever.”

The source continued: “He never imagined he would be going through a divorce in the public eye. But he’s hanging in there and is grateful for his friends and family who have been supportive.”

On September 13, an insider disclosed to Entertainment Tonight that Gomez is still in the process of healing from the conclusion of his marriage to Grande.

The source said: “He’s throwing himself into work and working harder than ever since his split from Ariana. He is trying to stay distracted and keep himself busy in positive ways.”

Regarding his romantic life, the source mentioned, “He is dating a little bit, and a lot of girls are giving Dalton attention. He is not completely over his relationship with Ariana, but he is doing his best to move forward.”

This update came a day after another source, as reported by Daily Mail, suggested that Grande might not have entirely let go of Gomez.

The source remarked: “It seems as if Ariana is holding onto Dalton in case things with Ethan don’t work. It is just so strange that she is living with Ethan and has not filed documents to end it with Dalton.”

In October 2023, their divorce proceedings were successfully concluded. Merely weeks after filing for divorce, the former couple reached an agreement on the dissolution of their marriage. According to reports from TMZ, they had a prenuptial agreement in place and, as a result, no spousal support was involved. However, Gomez is said to be receiving $1,250,000, which is tax-free, and he will also receive half of the net proceeds from the sale of their Los Angeles home. Additionally, Grande will be responsible for covering up to $25,000 of her ex-husband’s attorney fees and providing ongoing 24-hour security for him.
