Dasha Nekrasova is a Belarusian-American actress, filmmaker and co-host of the Red Scare podcast with Anna Khachiyan. She was nicknamed “Sailor Socialism” after her interview with an InfoWars reporter, where she was dressed in a now-famous sailor fuku.

As an actress and writer, Nekrasova is known for her appearances in The Scary of Sixty-First (2021), Succession (2018) and The Ghost Who Walks (2019).

Daria Dmitrievna “Dasha” Nekrasova was born on February 19, 1991, in Minsk, Byelorussian SSR, Soviet Union (now Belarus). At the age of four, her family emigrated to the United States of America, where they settled in Las Vegas, in the state of Nevada.

Nekrasova attended high school at Las Vegas Academy of the Arts, graduating in 2008. Later on, she enrolled in  Mills College, where she studied sociology and philosophy.

Nekrasova’s career first began when she appeared in several music videos for alternative artists such as Yumi Zouma. Later on, she made her feature film debut in Wobble Palace, which she co-wrote with director Eugene Kotlyarenko. While promoting the film at the 2018 South by Southwest Festival, Nekrasova had an interview with right-wing media outlet, InfoWars. The interview went viral after she was nicknamed “Sailor Socialism” for supporting Bernie Sanders, a U.S. Democrat presidential aspirant, while dressed in a Japanese schoolgirl outfit resembling Sailor Moon.

Nekrasova also played the leading role in the dark comedy The Softness of Bodies, in which The Hollywood Reporter praised her for inhabiting the role “effortlessly”. On March 29, 2018, Nekrasova started a podcast, Red Scare, with co-host Anna Khachiyan. The podcast has been associated with the dirtbag left. Red Scare is a satirical media commentary show which explores culture and politics, ranging from corporate feminism to the #MeToo movement.

Apart from film and podcast, Nekrasova has been involved in modelling. In 2019, she appeared as a runway model at the Marlborough art gallery, alongside Khachiyan in Manhattan. They showcased the Fall 2019 collection designed by Rachel Comey.

In 2020, she made her directorial debut with the horror movie The Scary of Sixty-First, which was inspired by Jeffrey Epstein’s death. The film earned her the “Best First Feature Award” at the Berlin International Film Festival. Later that year, Nekrasova co-wrote the short film, Spectacular Reality, which was inspired by conspiracies surrounding crisis actors and featuring models from No Agency New York. 

On  November 6, 2020, she directed the video performance of Oneohtrix Point Never’s “I Don’t Love Me Anymore” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She currently appears in a supporting role in the third season of the HBO drama, Succession, as Comfrey, a crisis PR rep. With the series, she won a Screen Actors Guild award, along with the cast.
