Demetrius Flenory Jr. Career

Flenory Jr. gained widespread recognition for his role in the 50 Cent’s BMF series adaptation, where he portrayed his father, Demetrius Flenory of the Black Mafia Family. In 2019, going by the moniker “Lil Meech” as a tribute to his father, “Big Meech”, Flenory Jr. independently released his debut track titled: “Bad Habits.” Notably, the music video for this song features a brief recording of his father, who was incarcerated at the time.

Flenory Jr. has revealed that he received a call from his imprisoned father, during which his dad informed him that rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson had acquired the rights to the Black Mafia Family story and was planning to create either a movie or a TV series based on it. The Black Mafia Family narrative revolves around the true story of two brothers from Detroit, Demetrius “Big Meech” and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory, who rose to infamy as prominent drug dealers in the 1980s, eventually becoming one of the most influential crime families in America.

In the early 2000s, Flenory founded BMF Entertainment, a criminal enterprise involved in drug trafficking and money laundering, which also included a record label, a hip-hop magazine and a music promotional agency.

The initial casting call for this project was held in Atlanta, and Flenory Jr.’s father hoped that he would have the opportunity to meet Jackson and gain insight into how the adaptation was being developed. However, when the search for an actor for his father’s role fell short, Jackson, who was not only a rapper but also an executive producer of the series, decided to relocate Flenory Jr. to Los Angeles and enrol him in acting classes to prepare him for the role of his father.

At the time, Flenory Jr. was pursuing a business degree at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He described the experience as “intense” as he underwent acting lessons for two years, often five days a week and sometimes even twice a day. Jackson maintained close communication with Flenory Jr. and the show’s creator, Randy Huggins, throughout the project’s development.

Initially, Huggins was not convinced that Flenory Jr. needed to portray his father in the series. However, Flenory Jr. reflected on this journey in an interview with The New York Post, saying, “At first it sounded crazy — I had never acted before. I was actually in school for business at UNLV, in Las Vegas. [Now] I want to act for the rest of my life. I feel like I found my calling. So, 50 brought acting to me. He’s the reason that I’m acting. He helped me get the role, but I had to earn it and show the network [that I was the right choice].”

Flenory Jr. received positive acclaim for his portrayal of his father in the BMF television series, with The Face describing his performance as “brilliant”. The crime drama series was renewed for a second season even before the completion of the first season’s broadcast.

In August 2021, Flenory was announced as a new addition to HBO’s Euphoria, where he plays the character “Travis”, a DJ and producer. Expressing his enthusiasm for the show, Flenory Jr. said: “Euphoria touches on a lot of different subjects and it’s all real-world things. I think it’s needed for the culture, that’s why so many people love it. I love it. I watched the whole first season and I can’t wait for the next. It’s the truth, it’s real, and it’s what’s happening out there.”

Demetrius Flenory Jr's father

Flenory Jr. was born in Miami, Florida, to Demetrius Flenory Sr. and Latarra Eutsey. However, they never got married. It is noteworthy that his father, Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory Sr., has been in prison since Flenory Jr. was very young.

During their formative years, Flenory Jr.’s father and his brother, Terry Flenory, who is now known as Terry P.O. Lee “Southwest T” Flenory, shared a close bond. It was during the late 1980s, while they were still in high school, that they began their venture into the streets of Detroit, selling $50 bags of cocaine.

As the years passed, their small-scale cocaine business evolved into a massive, multi-million-dollar operation. This expansion ultimately led to the creation of the infamous Black Mafia Family (BMF). BMF grew to become a significant entity in the drug trade, dominating the distribution of multi-kilogram shipments of cocaine in numerous states across America. These states included Alabama, Florida, California, Georgia, Louisiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee and Ohio.

The headquarters of BMF was situated in Atlanta, and it was generating an astonishing $270 million in revenue before law enforcement authorities intervened and shut it down. In addition to his involvement in drug trafficking, “Big Meech” Flenory was also a talented musician. Using the wealth acquired from the drug trade, he established BMF Entertainment.

BMF Entertainment became a prominent player in the hip-hop music industry, promoting numerous high-profile hip-hop artists. After Big Meech was apprehended and subsequently sentenced to prison, his activities within BMF played a significant role in inspiring the creation of the BMF television series that is currently being broadcast on TV.

When Lil Meech’s father admitted to drug trafficking in 2007, Lil Meech was just a small boy of seven years old. By the time Lil Meech turned eight, both his father and his uncle Terry had already received 30-year prison sentences. It is worth mentioning that during his time in prison, the former drug lord has been involved in volunteering for various charitable activities.

Lil Meech’s father managed to have his sentence reduced by three years but has not yet received a compassionate release. As a result, it is expected that the former drug tycoon may regain his freedom around 2028. This means he will be released by the time Flenory Jr. will be approaching his 30s.

In contrast, Terry “Southwest T” Flenory, “Big Meech’s younger brother, had a different fate. His sentence was reduced by six years, and he has already been released from prison to serve the remainder of his sentence under home arrest. This release was granted following the authorities’ approval of his compassionate discharge.

As for his relationship life, Flenory Jr. started dating R&B singer Summer Walker in April 2023, which stirred quite a bit of controversy. However, their relationship came to an end on July 31, 2023.
