Emma Portner has emerged as a remarkable force captivating audiences with her innovative and expressive movements. Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Portner’s journey in the world of dance commenced at the tender age of three, evolving into a prolific career in the entertainment industry.

Emma Portner, born on November 26, 1994, is a professional Canadian dancer and choreographer. Portner hails from Ottawa, Ontario, and commenced her dance journey at the age of three. Her early dance experiences took place at a competitive studio in Ottawa and she spent her summers training with The National Ballet of Canada.

During her time in Ottawa, she was also part of the specialised arts program in the dance stream at Canterbury High School. At the age of 17, she relocated from Ottawa, Ontario, to New York City to undergo training at The Ailey School. However, she decided to conclude her formal education after five months and embarked on her professional career.

Portner crafted some of the choreography for Jim Steinman’s Bat Out of Hell The Musical. Having noticed Portner’s distinctive dance skills in the video, Dancing in the Dark, Parris Goebel decided to involve her in Justin Bieber’s album project, titled: “PURPOSE: The Movement.”

Portner was featured in the video of Life Is Worth Living, a track on the album. The video gained widespread attention, accumulating over 50 million views on YouTube.

The success of Life Is Worth Living opened up another opportunity for Portner to collaborate with Bieber. She was invited to choreograph sections of Bieber’s Purpose World Tour. Since then, Portner has been involved in choreography and projects for various artists and companies.

In 2019, she received a nomination for Arena Dance Competition’s “Best Female Dancer” of the year. The Paper Magazine also featured Portner in “PAPER Predictions; 100 people to watch in 2019”. Portner has graced the covers of Dance Spirit and Dance Magazine, as of yet unverified.

As of 2020, her artistic contributions have been showcased in various settings, including Apple, Netflix, Vogue, Sony Pictures, late-night television, and within the realm of professional ballet. She has directed movements for indie music stars such as Blood Orange, Maggie Rogers, Half Alive and BANKS, and has performed at esteemed venues like the Guggenheim Museum, Jacob’s Pillow, the Oslo Opera House, New York City Center and Theater Champs-Elysees.

In 2021, Portner’s inaugural ballet, “Islands”, was chosen to tour alongside some influential choreographers, Crystal Pite, Jiri Kylian and Ohad Naharin, for the Norwegian National Ballet.

The multifaceted artiste is the lead vocalist of Bunk Buddy, an indie music duo comprising herself and producer Noah Rubin.

Portner showed her support for his disclosure that same day on her Instagram account, expressing that she was “so proud” of him. The couple separated in the summer of 2020 and Page initiated divorce proceedings in January 2021. The divorce was finalised in early 2021.
