In the quiet town of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, tragedy struck the Richardson family in April 2006. The horrific events unfolded within the confines of their home, where 12-year-old Richardson carried out a plan that would result in gruesome murders.

Richardson’s parents, Marc and Debra Richardson, had grounded her for dating 23-year-old Steinke, whose influence they found troubling. Her parents disapproved of her relationship due to the significant age difference between her (Richardson), who was just beginning her adolescent years, and her lover. The Richardsons felt that their daughter was underage and way too young to indulge in romantic relationships at the time.

Her parents’ disapproval of their relationship also intensified because Steinke claimed to be a 300-year-old werewolf with a penchant for blood.

Fueled by their forbidden love and the perceived injustice of her family’s disapproval, Richardson, along with Steinke, devised a plan to eliminate those who stood in their way. Their sinister plot took inspiration from the movie “Natural Born Killers” and the night of April 23, 2006, saw the ruthless execution of their scheme.

Richardson’s parents, Marc and Debra, were found dead in the basement of their residence. Richardson’s brother, Tyler Jacob, aged eight, had a similar terrible end upstairs. Richardson was not at home when the horrific find was made, which heightened worries that she could have been a victim.

However, the truth unravelled swiftly. Richardson was apprehended the next day, along with Steinke, in the community of Leader, Saskatchewan, about 130 kilometres away. Both were charged with three counts of first-degree murder. The investigation revealed a chilling motive rooted in defiance, the desire for forbidden love and a twisted fantasy of werewolves and vampirism.

Richardson’s mental health became a subject of scrutiny following the gruesome events that transpired in 2006. At the time of the murders, she was 12 years old, invoking privacy protections for her psychological evaluations under Canadian law. While Steinke, her accomplice and boyfriend, openly confessed and received a life sentence without a mental fitness evaluation, the details of Richardson’s mental state remained veiled.
