Jessica Simpson

Jessica Ann Simpson, born on July 10, 1980, in Abilene, Texas, is an American singer and actress. She is the eldest child of Tina Ann Simpson (formerly Drew) and Joseph Simpson. Her parents tied the knot in 1978 but went their separate ways in 2013. Simpson was brought up in the Christian faith and reportedly received a purity ring from her father when she turned 12. She spent her early years in Dallas and Waco. She has a younger sister named Ashlee.

Due to her father’s job as a minister, Jessica and her family moved frequently, mostly within Texas, but with a few years spent living in the Midwest.

Simpson briefly attended Amelia Middle School while her father engaged in outreach work in Cincinnati, Ohio. After returning to Texas 20 months later, she enrolled at J. J. Pearce High School in Richardson. Nevertheless, she had to discontinue her studies in 1997 as her career began to gain momentum. A year later, she obtained her General Education Development (GED) certificate through distance learning from Texas Tech High School. Simpson was brought up in the Christian faith and received a purity ring from her father when she turned twelve.

Due to her father’s job as a minister, Jessica and her family moved frequently, mostly within Texas, but with a few years spent living in the Midwest.

Simpson burst onto the pop scene with her debut single, “I Wanna Love You Forever,” in 1999. Since then, she has pursued singing and acting, taking part in reality TV and appearing in films.

In her 2020 memoir, “Open Book,” Simpson candidly discussed her struggles with alcohol and prescription pills, including her infamous “glitter cup” filled with alcohol.

In the book, she recounts the moment she decided to become sober. She explained that she had been drinking at a Halloween party and had not felt up to helping her children get into their costumes, so she had hidden from them.

“I was afraid of them seeing me in that condition,” Simpson said in her memoir. “I am ashamed to admit that I don’t even know who helped them with their costumes that night.”

She mentioned that she had taken an Ambien and gone to bed the next morning to avoid confronting the situation. She had drunk again. Later, friends had come over, and that’s when Simpson confronted her journey.

“I need to stop,” she had recalled saying. “Something has to stop. And if it’s alcohol that’s causing this and making things worse, then I quit.”

Simpson recently celebrated six years of sobriety. As she looked ahead to the new life she had crafted for herself, she also took a moment to reflect on her journey. On her Instagram Stories, Simpson shared a post from 2021, marking her fourth year of being sober. The post included a picture of Simpson alone on November 1, 2017, with a caption where she reflected on seeing “an unrecognisable version of myself”.

She said that at that very moment, she knew she would allow herself to reclaim her light, demonstrate victory over her inner struggle with self-respect, and face this world with clear determination. She explained that to achieve this, she needed to quit consuming alcohol because it had kept her mind and heart trapped in the same cycle, and frankly, she had been drained. She expressed that she had wanted to feel the pain so she could wear it as a badge of honour.

She addressed the stigma surrounding the term “alcoholic”, stating that the issue was not the drinking, rather it was her. According to her, she did not love herself or value her strength.
