Kevin Alvarez biography

Born in 1999, Kevin Nahin Álvarez Campos is a Mexican footballer. He currently plays for the Liga MX team, América, and is also a part of the Mexico national team as a right-back.

According to Álvarez, he feels a strange sensation in his chest. It is like a quick pain that comes and goes without warning. It is as if something is reminding him of things, making him think and feel both frustrated and motivated. When he was young and playing soccer on the streets and empty areas of Colima, Álvarez once revealed that he noticed that every time something bad happened in his games, whether during recess or official matches, his body would get tight, and he would feel numb, with that same sensation coming back again and again.

Speaking of his father, who is the reason behind his chosen career, the Mexican player once said: “My dad loved soccer and taught me how to love it. He wanted to play as a professional but life put him in another situation and took the path of raising his family. He focused on his studies, my mother and his children.

“But he had a plan for one of us to be a professional player and I was always very excited. He trained us in the summer (and) he followed us closely in every game, even if it was something without formality. He advised us and that’s where the bet on being a soccer player was born.

“When he passed away and I was eight years old, I felt that I had to do it for him and me. That’s where my path began and that feeling that I could go one step further.”

Kevin Alvarez career

Álvarez’s career found its first spark at the age of 10. The Pachuca Club’s talent scouts embarked on a nationwide recruitment tour, seeking young prospects with potential. It was in Colima that they discovered a remarkably skilled flyer, showcasing both speed and technique that left onlookers and opponents awestruck. His abilities earned him a spot on the final list of selected children.

With this opportunity, Álvarez’s dream was about to take flight. However, it came with the sacrifice of leaving his family behind, a decision that was a necessity. So, he left behind his mother, his close circle and his friends. His room was once adorned with posters of soccer legends like Cuauhtémoc Blanco, Rafa Márquez, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Wayne Rooney and David Beckham. These posters served as inspiration v and a reminder of his aspirations.

“Since I was young, my dream was always to play for Barcelona or any Premier League team, my favourite league,” he said recently.

In April 2019, Álvarez was selected as part of the 21-player squad to represent Mexico in the U-20 World Cup held in Poland. Subsequently, he was called up by Jaime Lozano to join the under-23 squad for the 2019 Pan American Games, where Mexico won third place. On July 3, 2021, Álvarez marked his debut with the senior national team during a friendly match against Nigeria.

In October 2022, Álvarez’s name was included in Mexico’s preliminary 31-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Eventually, in November of the same year, he was officially named as one of the 26 players on the final roster for the World Cup. Additionally, he clinched the 2022 Liga MX Apertura title.

Álvarez has gotten medals with his clubs and has been recognised with several individual awards. He secured the Mexico U23 Pan American Bronze Medal in 2019. On the individual front, Álvarez was selected for the Liga MX Best XI during Guardianes 2021 and Clausura 2022. He was named the Liga MX Best Full-back for the 2021–22 and 2022–23 seasons. Moreover, he was designated as a Liga MX All-Star in both 2021 and 2022.

In a recent interview with GQ Hype, Alvarez revealed his current plans for his football career and how he intends to achieve them.

He said: “My next step is to simply go to Europe, to any league. Then, the second move would come, which is the adaptation and the demonstration that you deserve a place there and that you deserve an opportunity in another bigger team.

“The maximum dream would be the English league and the Spanish league, which is where I would like to be; but today I can go to any team as a formative step, I am not fighting with that. I think I have a lot to train and then take that leap and I’m getting ready to leave the country.

I’ve been working on that project for more than a year and I think I’m ready. I know that I am 24 years old and that I am not that big, but I also know that it is just enough to go to Europe. After the age of 25, they are no longer looking for you there. They leave for people from 19 to 21 years old, that can be seen and felt.
