Taylor Russell McKenzie was born in the community of Deep Cove, which is situated in North Vancouver, Canada, in 1994. Her life story embodies resilience, determination and the pursuit of artistic passion. 

Life was a series of relocations for Russell’s family, moving a staggering 16 times during her childhood to accommodate her father’s professional endeavours. A remarkable fact about Russell is that she began working at the age of 13. She was raised in  Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. 

Russell’s artistic inclinations were evident from a young age. Ballet and painting captured her interest, each offering a unique path for her creative expression. At 18 years old, a significant turning point arrived when she took her first acting class. This marked the beginning of her true artistic journey. Russell’s dedication was clear —using her hard-earned savings, she invested in a car that would carry her to auditions in Los Angeles. When funds ran low, she would return home to work and save again for her next opportunity.

Her resume boasts an array of job experiences, from working at restaurants to a jewellery store and even a butcher’s shop. The cycle of auditions, work and perseverance finally paid off when she secured her first significant television role.  Russell began her career in 2012 by appearing in an episode of the medical drama, Emily Owens, M.D. She later starred as “Jessica” in Blink and made her big-screen debut in the 2013 film, If I Had Wings.

In 2014, she played the role of “Lark Voorhies” in a TV movie and also got starred as “Jennifer” in the original movie, Pants on Fire. Russell featured in Strange Empire and Falling Skies and starred in the horror-thriller Dead of Night.

In 2016, she appeared in Dead of Summer and the teen drama, Before I Fall. Russell played “CeCe” in the TV movie Sea Change. Her breakthrough came in 2018 as “Judy Robinson” in the Netflix drama, Lost in Space. She earned acclaim for her role and was a nominee for a Saturn Award.

In 2018, Russell was part of the supernatural horror film, Down a Dark Hall, and took the lead in the psychological horror mystery, Escape Room, in 2019. Also in 2019, Russell’s remarkable performance in the drama film Waves earned her critical acclaim. Her portrayal was hailed as a “revelation,” and she stood out as the highlight among the impressive cast. The Los Angeles Times recognised her and co-star Kelvin Harrison Jr. as rising stars of their generation. Russell’s performance got her the Gotham Independent Film Award for “Breakthrough Performer” and the Virtuoso Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, among others.

Russell also took on a starring role in the romantic drama Words on Bathroom Walls (2020). She not only acted but also co-directed, wrote and produced the documentary, The Heart Still Hums. This movie was recognised at the Palm Springs International ShortFest Award for “Best Documentary Short”.

In 2021, Russell appeared in the comedy-drama, Dr. Bird’s Advice for Sad Poets, and reprised her role in the Escape Room sequel Escape Room: Tournament of Champions. She also directed a part of a music video and starred alongside Timothée Chalamet in the romance horror film Bones and All.

In 2023, Russell took on the role of “Connie” in the play The Effect at the Royal National Theatre in London. She is set to star in the comedy film, Mother, Couch, premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival. Additionally, she is lined up for the thriller, Hope.

Russell has an elder and a younger brother. Her roots are a beautiful blend of her mother’s Caucasian heritage and her father’s Jamaican descent.

On August 9 2023, the two were captured in photographs following Russell’s performance in the play The Effect at London’s National Theatre. In the images, the As It Was singer can be seen warmly greeting the actress, embracing her and sharing laughter. A source revealed to Page Six that Styles remained by Russell’s side throughout the evening. 

Initial rumours about their alleged relationship gained traction after TMZ released footage of Russell enjoying Styles’s Love On Tour concert in Vienna, Austria, where she was observed swaying to the music alongside members of the pop star’s entourage. The following day, they were also photographed strolling hand-in-hand along the streets of Vienna.

Russell was also spotted sharing moments with Styles at the White Cube gallery in London. A fan managed to capture pictures of the duo meeting their driver and shared the images on TikTok, which gained traction and went viral.

Earlier, on July 22, 2023, Russell attended yet another of the Late Night Talking crooner’s tour stops but, this time, it was for his final Love On Tour concert in Reggio Emilia, Italy. In a TikTok video, the Lost in Space actress was seen holding hands with Glenne Azoff, who is married to Styles’s manager, Jeff Azoff, as they listened to Harry addressing his devoted fans.

Approximately a week later, Styles took a flight to witness Russell’s performance in The Effect, a play described by The Telegraph as delving into themes of love and mental well-being amidst a drug trial. Reports suggest he brought his sister Gemma and her boyfriend along to watch the play.

As of the present moment, both Styles and Russell have refrained from confirming or addressing the speculated relationship.
